Elementary EGAT 2009

The Center hosts EGAT (Exploring Gifts and Talents) Day for more than 300 fourth- and fifth-grade students from eight Pulaski elementary schools.

In an interactive workshop exploring traditional Kentucky music, Emily Carr, a fifth-grade student at Southern Elementary School, tries her hand at playing the fiddle, as Alexis Lovins (SES), right, and other students await their turn to pick up the string instrument.

Potter Albert Bauman, right, works with Austin Dunagan, a fifth-grade student at Burnside Elementary School, on the potter’s wheel to mold wet clay into a handmade clay pot during an interactive art workshop. Bauman, of Washington County, selected students at random to receive guided instruction and hands-on experience working with clay on the potter’s wheel.

Robert Lawson, an accomplished musician and executive director of Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in Mt. Vernon, conducts a workshop session on exploring traditional Kentucky musical instruments. Lawson shows a group of Pulaski County students some of the original stringed instruments in the banjo family.
