Environmental Day October 17, 2008
Environmental Awareness Day was held on October 17, 2008. The day was an incredible success for over 184 of our fourth grade students representing all eight elementary schools.
Our students began their exciting Environmental Awareness experience at one of the five mini-workshops sessions giving students in-dept insights into our local, state and federal partners carrying out positive environmental practices.
Students were fascinated by the number and quality of positive environmental practices our local Walmart store implements and what the future solar Walmart stores are going to look like for consumers. Students were challenged by the local Pulaski County Cooperative Extension Services to think outside the box about issues from global warming, alternative fuels to natural resources.
Playmart and our very own Pulaski County Recycling Center demonstrate how recycled milk jugs can turn into wonderful playground equipment for people of all ages to enjoy. And, students were captivated by the Pulaski County Conservation District/ Kentucky Chapter of Nature Conservancy’s and Pulaski County Community Education/ USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service’s interactive Enviroscape education models illuminating positive watershed, wetland, recycling practices and erosion control.
