Family Resource Center

Our Family Resource Center is open Monday - Friday from 7:30 am - 5:00 pm.

The Family Resource/ Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) were established as a component of the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA) in 1990.

FRYSC Mission Statement:
To enhance students' ability to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote:

    * Early learning and successful transition to school;
    * Academic achievement and well-being; and
    * Graduation and transition into adult life.           

The Southern Elementary Family Resource Center is available to ALL Southern Elementary students, parents and families, regardless of family income.

Our goal is to remove the barriers to learning by providing support and services that will enhance the lives of ALL our students.

· On-site Childcare Program which provides after-school child care: 3:30-5:30 PM, daily while school is on session.

· Referrals to the Eastern Kentucky Childcare Coalition for licensed childcare providers.

· Referrals to the Parents as Teachers program for new and expectant parents of children 0-5 years / Kindergarten entry (child development info).

· Referrals to the Pulaski Co. Family Literacy Program and GED classes.

' On-site school nurse, 5 days a week from 8:00 AM-3:00 PM.
She provides our students with health services,vision and hearing screenings, and/or referrals to outside health services.

· Parent Education classes/Resource library.

· Referrals for emergency assistance (clothing, food, school supplies, and limited financial assistance).

· Referral to and collaboration with Mental Health Agencies.

· Educational/Prevention programs (health, dental, fire, safety...).


  • Grandparent Support Group.

  • Dental Care Services in collaboration with the dental office of Dr. Michael Pope and a Dental Bus program.

  • Field Day.

  • Character Education.

  • Support groups such as: Grief Group, Anger Management Group.

  • Collaborate with Science Hill DAV/ DAVA Unit 162 to sponsor items for the Christmas gift baskets for Pulaski County Veterans confined to their home, local nursing homes, hospital and assistant living facilities and the VA facility in Wilmore KY. 

  • Co-sponsor/ Collaboration of: Back to School Bash, "Feud for Food" Food Drive.
